NY Residents Affected by Crane Collapse Get On-Site Claims Help from Insurance Department
Consumers affected by last Saturday’s crane collapse on Manhattan’s East Side can get on-site help with insurance issues from the New York State Insurance Department. Department personnel deployed at the site can help consumers file claims for damages caused by the incident.
Eighteen buildings and more than 250 dwelling units were affected by the crane’s collapse.
“Consumers who have suffered damages related to this incident can get immediate help from our consumer services professionals with any questions, claims or other insurance issues,” said New York Insurance Superintendent Eric Dinallo. “We are gratified to be able to work with the city’s Office of Emergency Management and other state and federal agencies to help ease the burden on those affected by this tragedy.”
Assistance will be provided at the Department’s Mobile Command Center, located in front of St. Peter’s Church at the corner of Lexington Avenue and 54th Street. The Center will be staffed daily until 9 p.m. It is expected to remain at the site through the weekend.
The Mobile Command Center, a 36-foot long van equipped with a broad array of wireless technologies that enable Insurance Department personnel to provide on-site disaster assistance, has been dispatched to a number of disaster sites since it was placed in service in June 2006. It has enabled Insurance Department personnel to assist New Yorkers affected by flooding, unusually severe snowstorms and a tornado.
