Mile High Markets, a specialty commercial auto program administered by Arrowhead General Insurance Agency, Inc., and supported by Arrowhead Programs, is marking 40 years of continuous service in the rental vehicle space.
Originally launched in 1985 to close a gap in coverage for independent rental operators, Mile High Markets has grown into one of the longest-running programs of its kind. That longevity is grounded in industry fluency, disciplined underwriting,g and strong relationships with both agents and their carrier.
While the program has evolved with the market, its approach has remained steady. Angela Dodd, vice president of Mile High Markets, notes that staying informed and maintaining open communication has helped the program adapt through decades of change, including shifting liability pressures, carrier transitions, economic downturns, and the wide-ranging effects of the pandemic.
“My office is full of awards. They all have my name on them, but not one of them is mine. Everything we do here is a team effort,” Dodd says.
What sets Mile High Markets apart, Dodd says, is their ability to develop tailor-made solutions for operators — even those with complex or unusual exposures. “Where we really shine is when there's an interesting risk,” she says. “Out-of-the-box situations are my favorite.”
This year, the program has completed new filings in Alaska and Hawaii, restoring access in those markets for long-term clients and new prospects. A new underwriter also joined the team to support continued growth and continuity.
Looking ahead, Dodd hopes agents continue to rely on the program. “I hope they still look to us to answer the tough questions for them and create meaningful solutions,” she says. “And I hope they continue to see us as not a market, but a reliable resource.”
