Strengthening its presence in the increasingly important Florida property and casualty (P&C) market, global professional services company Towers Watson has appointed two long-time industry veterans with vast experience in the state; Robert Betz, practice leader for the company’s Florida P&C insurance services, and Lloyd Stofko, a senior broker in its reinsurance brokerage business, also focusing on Towers Watson's Florida P&C insurance initiatives.

"The industry dynamics in the Florida P&C market require a keen knowledge of the industry as well as the enacted and pending legislation that will impact insurers and reinsurers who do business there,” said James Hole, a Towers Watson managing director and a leader within the company’s reinsurance brokerage business, the world’s fourth largest. “Both Bob and Lloyd have deep understanding of the Florida market, and our current and potential clients in the state will benefit from their expertise.”

Before joining Towers Watson, Betz and Stofko were with Guy Carpenter & Co., and the former Sellon Associates Inc. which was acquired by Guy Carpenter in 1991.

Betz, a former Guy Carpenter managing director, has more than 20 years of experience in the Florida market, specifically in the areas of reinsurance broking and consulting for new and existing clients. He was also a member of the company’s Florida operating committee. He has also held senior executive positions with Gerling Global Reinsurance Corp., and Allstate Insurance Co.

Stofko, who was most recently a Guy Carpenter senior vice president, has been focusing on developing new and existing carriers in Florida since 1995. He has also worked for IBM and a private computer consulting firm.
