Lawmakers Say They Will Act to Pass Rescue Plan Legislation

"We will get the job done. We'll get it done this week," McConnell said.

There will be no votes in Congress on Tuesday because of a Jewish holiday, but Reid said he would confer with fellow lawmakers to find common ground and a way to move forward.

Reid and McConnell appeared on the Senate floor together just hours after President Bush made another plea at the White House for action.
