Work At Home Vintage Employees LLC (WAHVE), a company that provides domestic remote staffing services for insurance firms, announced that insurance industry leader Richard A. Poppa, CAE, AAI, has joined WAHVE's advisory board.
Poppa is president and chief executive officer of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of New York, Inc. He joins the WAHVE advisory board not in that capacity but as an individual.
"Dick Poppa's experience and expertise in helping independent agencies grow is tremendously valuable to WAHVE," explained Sharon Emek, Ph.D., president and CEO of WAHVE. "I've long admired his insights and perspective on the insurance industry and how it operates. He truly has the best interests of independent agents at heart."
Poppa, a graduate of Ball State University in Indiana, joined IIABNY as president and CEO in 1996. Prior to his role with IIABNY, Poppa was senior vice president and chief operating officer of the Independent Insurance Agents of America (1989-96), executive vice president of the IIA of Indiana (1986-89) and as administrative vice president of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of California (1984-85). Poppa worked for Insurance Institute of Indiana (1979-84) and began his career with the Indiana Department of Commerce. He is active with industry groups that support the independent agency system, including the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (Big 'I') and Agents Council for Technology (ACT).
"I appreciate the innovation and leadership that people in the independent agent system bring to our industry," commented Poppa. "I have known and admired Sharon Emek's work an independent agency principal. Leaders like her and companies like WAHVE are going to be a big part of the future success of the agency system."
Poppa joins several other insurance leaders on the advisory board:
- Martin (Mell) L. Vaughan III, former chairman and CEO of Hilb, Rogal and Hamilton Co.
- Cynthia Young, former president of Encompass Insurance, a personal lines division of Allstate Insurance.
- Edie Weiner, president of Weiner, Edrich, Brown, Inc., a futurist consulting group.
- Rick Morgan, senior vice president of Aartrijk, an insurance branding firm.
- Sheldon Czapnik, former director of editorial services for Time Inc. and a writer and editor developing books for publication.
