IICF NY/Northeast Announces Record Number of Charitable Grants

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) New York/Northeast division will award a record number of grants at its 2011 benefit dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 14 in New York City.
"The large number of grants is the result of the fundraising effort and success of the insurance leaders involved in the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation," said Betsy Myatt, executive director of the IICF NY/Northeast division.
"IICF grants are a reflection of the caring and generosity of the insurance industry in our community. These grants are made possible through the collective efforts of nearly 200 companies who jointly work to improve the lives of people in the communities where we live and work. The companies have come together to create a greater impact through collaboration," Myatt noted.
Each of the 14 grants was for $50,000 or more. The recipients and their activities are:

Boys Hope Girls Hope New York helps academically capable and motivated children-in-need to meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing value-centered, family-like homes, opportunities, and education through college.
The Children's Storefront is a tuition-free school, a family, a community, a safe haven and a leader in the field of urban education. It seeks to instill the love of learning and provide individual support tailored to ensure each student's success.
Community Mainstreaming Associates provides homes and life-enhancing services for men and women with developmental disabilities.
Covenant House New Jersey provides services to homeless young people to help themselves to become happy, healthy and independent young adults by providing food, shelter, and immediate crisis care.
The Doe Fund answers the call for a proven and effective solution to homelessness and criminal recidivism. Through its innovative paid transitional work program "Ready, Willing & Able," The Doe Fund has empowered tens of thousands of individuals to lead productive lives.
Family Reach Foundation provides financial relief and heartfelt support to families fighting cancer. It strives to reduce the often-overwhelming financial and emotional burdens that families experience after a child or parent is diagnosed with cancer.

FDNY Foundation raises funds to assist the Fire Department of New York in its mission to prevent and respond to fires, medical emergencies, disasters and terrorist acts, protecting the lives and property of residents and visitors in the city. It also helps meet the department's training, equipment, and education needs.
Friends of Karen, Inc. ensures that families of critically ill children don't have to face the illness alone. The organization puts its experience to work to assure the emotional and financial well-being of every family member coping with a child's illness.
The Hagedorn Little Village School, Jack Joel Center for Special Children provides outstanding educational, therapeutic, and diagnostic services for children with disabilities from birth through elementary school.
Hudson River Sloop Clearwater provides innovative environmental programs, advocacy and celebrations in order to inspire and energize the next generation of environmental leaders.
The Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health serves as a unique model of coordinated and compassionate care, dedicated to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, education, and research in gastrointestinal cancers.

Quality of Life Plus (QL+) Program follows a mission of fostering and generating innovations to aid and improve the quality of life of wounded active-duty and retired military veterans, members of the intelligence and law enforcement communities, first responders and other public servants injured in the line of duty.
Starlight Children's Foundation NY*NJ*CT is dedicated to helping seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities. Starlight has benefited more than 275,000 children and their families living in the tri-state area.
World Cares Center fosters sustainable, locally led disaster preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives worldwide. Through culturally relevant trainings and support, the WCC improves citizens' ability to emerge from disasters.

The event, held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City on Wednesday, December 14, begins with a 6 p.m. reception. The dinner, now in its fifth year, is the premier insurance event in the New York tri-state area and is attended by 900 insurance industry leaders. Speakers and presenters at the fundraising event include:

    •    Katie Couric, host of "Katie" (premiering September 2012), ABC News contributor and co-founder of The Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health.
    •    General Richard B. Myers, USAF, Retired, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
    •    Denis Leary, actor, comedian, author and founder of The Leary Firefighters Foundation.
    •    Archie Manning, NFL great.
