Consumable Products

  • Accidental Contamination - an unintentional, inadvertent error (mislabeling, mis blending) the introduction of an ingredient or component supplied by a third party that is contaminated or unfit for its intended purpose and or bacterial contamination.
  • Product Tampering / Extortion -the actual or threatened intentional, malicious alteration or adulteration of Products whether in conjunction with a Product Extortion Demand or not so as to give the Insured or consumers reasonable cause to consider the Insured Products unfit or dangerous for their intended use. Coverage applies whether from internal (employee) or external sources.
  • Recall Costs-The Expenses associated with a product withdraw or recall including, but not limited to, value of product, additional wages, media announcements, transportation, analysis, warehousing, destruction and cost of replacing product.
  • Customer Recall- Replaces loss of gross profit of Insured that has resulted from a loss, for up to 12 month period from the date of loss. Applies to a reduction in sales as well as complete loss of sales. Defined as Gross Revenue less any non continuing expenses.
  • Loss of Profits-the reporting (albeit inaccurate) of an alleged Tampering or Contamination in local, regional, or national media (including but not limited to radio, television, newspapers, magazines or the internet) or any governmental publication where the Insured’s Product(s) is specifically named. Crisis Management Consultant - providing pre-loss planning, process reviews and post-loss investigations. On retainer, so no deductible or impact to policy limit or cost to the Insured
  • Customer Loss of Profits- providing your Customers with the profit they would have realized from the sale or use of your product had it not been the subject of a recall.
  • Rehabilitation expenses- incurred to restore the reputation and market share that existed prior to the loss. Traditionally with the use of a Public Relations firm chosen by the Insured.
  • Governmental Announcement/Recall- an official recall announcement has been issued by the regulatory authorities in order to comply with regulations on food or product safety where product in question is deemed by the regulatory authority to be injurious to health or unfit for human consumption.
  • Adverse Publicity-the reporting (albeit inaccurate) of an alleged Tampering or Contamination in local, regional, or national media (including but not limited to radio, television, newspapers, magazines or the internet) or any governmental publication where the Insured’s Product(s) is specifically named.
