Mission Statement of the Maguire Academy of Insurance and Risk Management
Created by James Maguire ’58, founder of Philadelphia Insurance Company, the mission of the Maguire Academy of Insurance and Risk Management is to promote and support the concept of risk management and insurance education; to provide services to risk management and insurance students, including scholarship aid, recruiting, internships/cooperative education, counseling and placement; and, with and through the University, to support the Department of Finance, which houses the risk management and insurance program.
SJU Symposium: March 14th and 15th 2019
On March 14, 2019, Mike Angelina will Moderate the Executive Opening Panel for the Saint Joseph’s University (SJU) Insurance and Reinsurance Symposium which is part of various symposiums that
SJU holds throughout the year for Continued Professional Development for the Industry, as well as exposure for the future industry leaders graduating with a RMI Degree from SJU.
This year SJU proudly welcomes representatives from Willis Re (Bob Graebner), Chubb (Kelly O’Leary), and Hamilton Insurance (Pina Alba) to discuss emerging trends and issues and comment for the
Audience on their perspectives. They Symposium draws an audience that represents the various sectors of the industry: Underwriting, Claims, Contracts, Primary Carriers, Reinsurance Companies, Retail, and Reinsurance Brokers. The format encourages audience participation.
CPCU Annual Meeting- October 2018—Mike Angelina Presented a Session on The Impact of Climate Change: Measuring Uncertainty” – Michael Angelina, ACAS, MAAA, CERA, Saint Joseph’s University, discussed how climate change is shaking up traditional risk management methods, and how to best take advantage of tools such as the Actuaries Climate Index for quantifying climate change hazards.
The Future of Risk Management”, October 2018 was a joint meeting with Delaware Valley RIMS, and the CPCU Society, led by Prof. Mike Angelina of St. Joseph’s University. Prof. Angelina shared insights, and the challenges faced by the next generation of risk managers.
