Stephen Whelan Joins Hartford Financial Products As VP, Commercial & Financial Risks

The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., this week announced the appointment of Stephen Whelan as vice president of commercial and financial risks for the company's Hartford Financial Products (HFP) division. Whelan will report to Michael Dandini, who was named senior vice president and head of HFP in June. HFP is one of the nation's largest underwriters of directors and officers (D&O), employment practices liability (EPL), errors and omissions (E&O), and crime insurance.

"HFP's leadership position in the industry and our deep bench of talented, experienced professionals has enabled us to attract the best people, both internally and externally, to drive our continued growth in this market," said Sean Fitzpatrick, senior vice president of The Hartford's Middle Market and Specialty Financial businesses, which include HFP and Hartford Bond. "Steve Whelan is highly regarded as one of the industry's top D&O underwriters, and we are very pleased to welcome him to HFP."

In this newly created position, Whelan will oversee HFP's entire domestic insurance portfolio for larger risks, including commercial, financial services, diversified, REIT and transactional risk accounts. Whelan joins The Hartford from American International Group (AIG), where he served in a number of roles of increasing responsibility, including, most recently, executive vice president and senior regional executive in AIG's executive liability area.

"Under Mike Dandini's leadership, Steve and the entire HFP team will serve The Hartford well in delivering outstanding products, services and expertise to meet the complex and evolving professional and management liability needs of our customers, agents and brokers," said Fitzpatrick.
