Byler will focus on the program business strategy, create and implement strategic initiatives, and maintain relationships with the insurance and reinsurance communities, QBE said.
He previously served as president and chief executive officer of Amtrust Underwriters Inc. in Connecticut. Prior to that, he headed Alea Alternative Risk, a start-up insurance and reinsurance operation.
Headquartered in Sydney, Australia, QBE Insurance Group operates out of 47 countries. The Americas Division, headquartered in New York, conducts business through various property and casualty insurance subsidiaries in eight countries. QBE's Americas Division produced $4 billion in gross written premium in 2009.
