Insurance Industry Softball Tourney Hits a Home Run for NY-Area Children and Families

IICFAon Benfield and the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) raised $50,000 for charitable organization Friends of Karen through an annual benefit softball tournament held July 26, 2012 in New York City's Central Park.

Friends of Karen's mission is to provide emotional, financial and advocacy support for children with a life-threatening illness and their families. The benefit proceeds will fund a grant for the organization's sibling support program, which provides specially trained professionals for the brothers and sisters of the seriously ill children who often need extra support during a family crisis. Aspen Re America Inc. was the victor, beating 13 teams from the insurance and reinsurance industry to win the tournament.

The stormy skies cleared just in time for the tournament to begin. David Brinkman, executive managing director, Aon Benfield, and chair of the IICF Northeast division board, commented: "We are pleased to be able to host this event again with the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation. Although it was a great day of softball and camaraderie, the main reason we were here today was to combine our insurance industry gifts to benefit a great charity. When the weather threatened play, many players commented that the day would be a success even if we did not step onto the field because we were able to help children and families in our community."
