Dr. Robert Hartwig, president of Insurance Information Institute, was a spectator at today's Boston Marathon. He was there to support his son, Jordan, who was taking part in the marathon as part of a fundraiser with the Syracuse ROTC to benefit injured veterans.Dr. Hartwig was no more than 100 feet away from where one of two reported explosions near the finish line at the Boston Marathon occurred yesterday.
"Luckily, we had left the scene before it happened because my son had finished," Hartwig told PC360. Anyone familiar with Hartwig knows it is not surprising he tweeted the information and a number to call to talk about insurance implications.
Hartwig said the security he saw at the event was “enormous” with a heavy police presence as it should be for an event of this nature and included bomb sniffing dogs that he saw early in the morning.
