ICF Week of Giving Kicks Off, Adding Donation Campaign to Volunteer Effort

IICFThe Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) holds its Week of Giving event October 13-20 as a broad-based effort to spark and sustain philanthropic activities by employees and employers in the insurance industry.

IICF Week of Giving combines the organization's longstanding insurance volunteerism program with a personal giving campaign to generate charitable donations by insurance professionals.

The personal giving campaign, which is new for 2012, invites every insurance professional to donate via text message. During October, individuals can donate $5 by texting INSURANCE to 50555. Donations also can be made online at www.IICF.org.

Donations from the personal giving campaign will be benefit four nonprofit organizations chosen by the IICF regional division boards: Feeding America, St. Baldrick's Foundation, Starlight Children's Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Bill Ross, CEO of IICF, noted:The insurance industry is made up of generous companies and employees. Many have a strong desire to give time and resources in their local communities. IICF Week of Giving is simply a way to help organize and extend those efforts to expand the insurance industry’s positive impact.”

IICF Week of Giving is the industry's largest, united philanthropic movement. During the week, teams of insurance volunteers head out into local communities to donate three or more hours of service at community-based nonprofit organizations. More than 140 nonprofits, 160 volunteer teams and 1,700 volunteers have already signed up to participate in volunteer activities.

Volunteer teams can still sign up at http://volunteer.iicf.org. Projects cover a wide range of needs, including disaster preparedness, education, the environment, housing, senior issues, women's issues, and youth and children.

Since 1998, insurance professionals have generated more than 155,000 hours of volunteer service for local community nonprofits.
