XL Insurance, the global underwriting operations of XL Group on Thursday announced the appointment of Roxanne Mitchell as President of its Excess & Surplus lines unit, reporting to Seraina Maag, Chief Executive, North America Property & Casualty.
"The E&S market is notoriously clever at adapting to changing market conditions to effectively meet insurance needs for hard-to-place risks," said Ms. Maag.
"New ideas and innovative ways of working are the keys to the E&S market's success, especially under today's challenging conditions. Under Roxanne's leadership, our E&S team is gearing up to put new strategies into play to enhance both our casualty and property surplus lines products and distribution." Ms. Mitchell joins XL Insurance from Lexington Insurance where she served as Zonal Executive for the company's Midwest Region overseeing 100 employees in five offices servicing 14 states.
During her 20 years with Lexington, she held several underwriting management positions, beginning with her appointment as Casualty Manager in Boston.
Her 30-year insurance career began as a Claims Adjuster, before a switch to underwriting with companies such as Intercontinental Insurance, a managing general agency, and American Universal, a Canadian Universal affiliate, in Boston. Ms. Mitchell is a graduate of Concordia College where she earned her B.A. in English.
"Roxanne's proven business development track record and strong producer relationships brings additional strength and expertise to our existing capabilities," added Ms. Maag. "In the last six years, XL Insurance built an E&S operation from the ground up and now we're ready to take our E&S business to even greater heights." Ms. Mitchell will be based in XL's Chicago office. John DiBiasi continues in his role as XL Insurance's Chief Underwriting Officer - E&S for Casualty. Reporting to Ms. Mitchell, he will be working closely with her to enhance XL Insurance's E&S underwriting activity and market position.
