In a news release over the weekend, the state-run insurer of last resort estimated it could receive 20,000 to 50,000 claims. Citizens now says it expects only 5,000 to 6,000.
Many of the claims reported Monday were for roof leaks.
Citizens, which has nearly 1.5 million customers across Florida, said policyholders should make temporary repairs to homes as necessary and keep receipts for reimbursement.
