Barbara Flanigan Named ASCnet CEO

ascnetLeslie Lacroix, CIP, CRM, chair of Applied Systems Client Network (ASCnet), the user group of Applied Systems technology, announced today that Barbara Flanigan, CPCU, AIT, ARM, ARe, has been named chief executive officer of the association.

Flanigan, a 30-year insurance industry veteran, joins ASCnet from Gallagher Bassett Services, where she was vice president-carrier practice. Prior to that, she held a variety of posts at CNA Insurance, where she was the company's representative on the Agents Council for Technology (ACT), part of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA); and the ACORD-Users Group Information Exchange (AUGIE) -- two groups in which ASCnet leaders actively are engaged.

"Barbara is highly regarded among industry thought leaders," said Lacroix, who serves as director of operations for Southland Insurance Brokers Inc. in Windsor, Ontario. "She spent much of her career working with independent insurance agents and brokers to help them reap the benefits of efficient carrier interface.

"While at CNA, she developed a deep understanding of the industry and of the challenges that today's agents and brokers face," Lacroix added. "Her experience aligns perfectly with ASCnet's vision of helping members make the most of their technology in order to drive greater profits and value."

In addition to Flanigan's insurance and interface background, she will provide ASCnet with strong leadership and financial management experience, Lacroix noted. "She will build on the association-management excellence Steve Johnson has built into the organization during his time with ASCnet." Johnson joined the organization as CEO in 2010 and announced earlier this year his intention to retire this summer.

Flanigan's tenure at CNA included a broad range of management roles in field management, process improvement, risk management, commercial lines and eBusiness. An Arizona State University alum, she completed the Kellogg School of Management Advanced Leadership program and has been honored by the National Association of Women Business Owners as a "Woman of Achievement."
