Marsh Names Brenda Shelly US Directors and Officers Liability Product Leader

Posted on 22 Jan 13 by Annie George

Marsh announced today that Brenda Shelly, a veteran management liability broker and underwriter, has been appointed the firm’s new US Directors and Officers Liability (D&O) Product Leader. In her new role, Ms Shelly will be responsible for the development and delivery of technical expertise and content to Marsh clients and colleagues on D&O insurance coverage, litigation trends, and emerging issues.
During her career at Marsh, Ms Shelly has held a variety of positions within its FINPRO practice, which specializes in financial and professional liability. Most recently she was the FINPRO Growth Leader for the Pacific North Partnership, which includes offices in San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City, and Denver; she has also served as FINPRO’s National Technology Practice Leader and National IPO Leader. She began her insurance career in 1986 as a management liability underwriting manager at Stewart Smith East.
“Directors and officers liability has long been a quintessential part of our clients’ insurance programs, and a cornerstone of Marsh’s FINPRO Practice,” said Lou Ann Layton, Marsh’s US FINPRO Leader. “Brenda Shelly’s proven experience as an advisor to many of our largest clients makes her an ideal choice to ensure that Marsh’s clients continue to have access to the industry’s best D&O insurance and risk management advice and solutions.”
Ms Shelly added: “Leading businesses and their leadership face a range of new risks stemming from growing regulatory uncertainty, aggressive government enforcement activities, and continued litigation, in an increasingly connected economy. Enhanced corporate governance, including directors and officers insurance programs backed by strong analytics and proven risk mitigation strategies, has never been as vital to our clients’ success. I am excited to lead our D&O product initiatives and to have the opportunity to bring our practice’s expertise forward to help our clients address their emerging exposures in this dynamic risk landscape.”
Ms Shelly, who has relocated from San Francisco to New York, succeeds Tripp Sheehan, who was recently named Marsh’s US Financial Institutions Practice Leader. She reports to Chris Lang, Marsh’s US FINPRO Placement Leader.
