The Spencer Educational Foundation and more than 500 insurance leaders honored Lockton President and CEO John Lumelleau and Liberty Mutual Chairman Ted Kelly Sept. 12 at a gala event at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
Lumelleau and Kelly were honored for their long service to the insurance industry and their support of the Spencer Foundation, which develops risk management educational programs and provides scholarships to students in risk management.
"To be honored by this group in front of my family and many friends is fantastic," said Lumelleau, reflecting on his career. "I've been surrounded by wonderfully talented people. Not a day goes by without me witnessing first-hand the difference that creative, dedicated individuals with a passion for our business make for clients and our company."
Lumelleau added, "Talented people, well trained, routinely challenged, and passionate for the right outcome is what drives our industry."
In introducing John Lumelleau, Lockton's Brian Kawamoto noted Lockton founder Jack Lockton's passion for supporting the community. The John T. Lockton Memorial Scholarship is one of the largest funds at the Spencer Foundation, delivering more than 50 individual scholarships since 2006. "It was under John Lumelleau's leadership that this generous act occurred. So now we have come full circle to honor John and the legacy of our founder, Jack Lockton," said Kawamoto.
The 2011 Spencer Educational Foundation Gala raised approximately $900,000, a record amount to be devoted to scholarships and educational programs in risk management.
The mission of the Spencer Educational Foundation, Inc. is to stimulate, promote and encourage promising students of risk management disciplines by supporting them in fulfilling their educational goals. The Foundation provides scholarship awards, educational grants, and knowledge programs for undergraduate, graduate and part-time MBA students.
