Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has hired a former Zurich Insurance executive to lead its customer and broker engagement as a senior vice president, according to a statement from the company.
Lori Spoon Rafkin was previously the broker relationship leader for Zurich North America. She's the latest addition to Berkshire’s new specialty insurance unit that has attracted several high-profile executives from various companies. Peter Eastwood, president of Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, said, in a written statement, Spoon Rafkin will be a “powerful addition” to the unit's team because of her experience with complex customer accounts and distribution management.
Before her role at Zurich, Spoon Rafkin served as an executive vice president and chief administrative officer for the CIT Group commercial finance division. She’s also a veteran of the commercial insurance field, holding numerous senior level positions at Marsh Inc., Berkshire said.
Warren E. Buffett, chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway, last month issued a public statement announcing the launch of Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. Berkshire Hathaway tapped Eastwood, the former president and chief executive officer of AIG Property Casualty for the Americas, to be president of Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Group. The unit most recently hired Ralph Tortorella III as senior vice president, chief legal and compliance officer. He was previously the global specialty general counsel at Liberty Mutual Group Inc.
