Agencies Find Homes with Admitted Markets for Main-Street Risks with Halcyon Underwriters

Last July, we featured an article on Halcyon Underwriters in our newsletter, and how agents turn to the wholesale broker for access to admitted, preferred markets for standard, Main-Street risks. Based in Florida, Halcyon is in its 27th year, serving retail agencies across the United States.

What Halcyon brings to the table is the ability for smaller to midsized agencies to place accounts with a variety of markets that they typically don’t have access to because of appointment and volume requirements. Halcyon partners with all the major, reputable, A-rated insurance carriers, including Ace, Admiral, Allianz, Alterra, CNA, Chartis, Chubb, Crum & Forster, Fireman’s Fund, Harleysville, Hartford, Liberty International Underwriters (LIU), Liberty Mutual, Markel, Montgomery (Florida Only), Travelers, and Zurich.

Halcyon writes both commercial and personal lines. They provide property, liability, workers comp, auto, and umbrella in addition to offering a commercial package policy, mono-line umbrella and mono-line inland marine for various classes of business. Halcyon also writes a great deal of mono-line property that’s tied into main-street business. Target industries include contractors, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, technology and other wholesalers. In personal lines, Halcyon concentrates on providing products for high net worth clientele, including high-value homeowners, high-value umbrellas, etc.

We followed up recently with Tinamarie Harrington, Business Development Manager, when we learned about an independent insurance agency in New Jersey who found Halcyon through when searching for markets for two separate manufacturing accounts. “We decided to become a Storefront and use as a marketing platform to expand our reach from Florida to throughout the country,” said Tinamarie. “We wanted agents to know about all the A-rated markets that we could make available to them, in addition to our underwriting expertise and experience. The other was a Pennsylvania-based building products distributor with a premium of $150,000. When we received the requests, they immediately went to our production underwriters who serve our middle markets. They contacted the agency and began the underwriting and prequalification process. We wrote both accounts with an A-rated carrier.”

Tinamarie explained that the agent found Halcyon through’s custom Google Search feature when searching for “manufacturing insurance”. Halcyon came up in the search along with the markets in which the agency was interested. “The agent then spoke with another agency he located through Google that does business with us to find out more about who we are. He then emailed us, and we immediately contacted him and began the underwriting process,” said Tinamarie.
