XL Insurance Appoints North America Chief P/C Underwriting Officer

XL Insurance, the global insurance operations of XL Group plc on Thursday announced the promotion of Bob Shine to Chief Underwriting Officer of North America Property & Casualty (P&C).

Previously Chief Casualty Underwriting Officer, Mr. Shine’s responsibilities expand to include underwriting oversight across all of XL Insurance’s property and casualty lines in the US and Canada. He remains based in New York, reporting to Seraina Maag, Chief Executive of XL Insurance’s North America P&C operation.

Commenting on Mr. Shine’s promotion, Ms. Maag said: “In his new role, Bob will now work with our entire P&C team to identify new business opportunities, lead and coordinate unique and complex transactions, and help drive timely new product development for our brokers and customers. Under Bob’s guidance, our individual P&C businesses will work together to assure consistent underwriting practice and standards are followed across our business lines so that XL Insurance continues to achieve its high-level of underwriting excellence.”

XL Insurance’s North America P&C operations include Excess & Surplus Lines, Excess Casualty, US Risk Management, Property, and Environmental lines as well as its North America Program business.

Prior to joining XL Insurance in June, Mr. Shine headed the Zurich North America Casualty Group, Specialties Business Unit, managing the complete casualty business, including the three units of Excess Casualty, Railroad and Wholesale lines. Throughout his career, he has held various underwriting and management roles including positions with AIG’s American Home Assurance Company and the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.
