Senate Set to Debate Flood Program this Monday

Flood insuranceThe Senate moved to consideration of a federal flood insurance extension bill, having passed a farm bill on Thursday.

On Monday the Senate will resume consideration of the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 (S. 1940), a five-year extension of the current flood insurance program, which is set to expire on July 31. After passing the Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2012 (S. 3240) on Thursday on a vote of 64-35, the chamber quickly voted 96-2 to end debate and proceed to the flood insurance bill.

Late in the legislative session on Thursday the Senate also passed a banking bill from the House, H.R. 33, and confirmed a number of military nominations.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) also set up a cloture vote on a motion to concur on a House amendment to the Food and Drug Safety and Innovation Act (S. 3187). The chamber will vote on Monday at 5:30.

The Senate resumes business at 2 p.m. on Monday.
