CybercrimeEight alleged members of a global cybercrime organization have been arrested in New York. Those arrested are charged with stealing $45 million in an alleged scheme that included thefts from compromised bank accounts, federal prosecutors said Thursday.

The eight people arrested, who were allegedly part of a New York cell of a global organization, live in the Yonkers, N.Y., area, according to federal prosecutors in Brooklyn.

Prosecutors alleged in part that the members of the New York cell were involved in an incident that resulted in $2.8 million being siphoned out of compromised bank accounts in a 24-hour period.

Loretta Lynch, the U.S. attorney in Brooklyn, and representatives of the U.S. Secret Service, are expected to discuss the charges in more detail at a press conference at 11 a.m. EDT on Thursday.
