Dick Simmons was named the first recipient of ARM's Weaver Memorial Award at the ARM National Conference in Indianapolis in late April. ARM (Associated Risk Managers International) is one of the nation's foremost independent insurance agency networks.
The Weaver Memorial Award was created in honor of the late Bob Weaver, who played many important roles within the ARM organization. It is presented to a member who has performed outstanding service on behalf of ARM.
Dick was the first-ever ARM State Executive Director, hired by ARM of Indiana shortly after its formation in 1970. He is currently President of Suter Haycraft & Simmons, Inc., an ARM agency servicing the Washington, D.C. Metro area. While serving on the ARM National Board as Treasurer, Dick also assumed the Secretary position after Bob's death. In addition to his National Board roles, he serves as the Executive Director of ARM of Virginia and ARM of North Carolina.
Bob Weaver, who passed away in late 2012, was an Ohio agent who served as Chairman of both ARM of Ohio and ARM International. Following his time as Chairman, he continued to be a Director for both organizations and served as ARM International Secretary. In his two decades of ARM membership, Bob held positions on every state and international committee.
"I had the pleasure of serving alongside Bob Weaver and he was undoubtedly one of my highest-held friendships. We spent many hours together for ARM in a volunteer effort to make the ARM franchise more valuable to its members," says Dick. "He was one of the sharpest minds I have ever known and his wit and smile made up his personality. To have been named the recipient of the first Weaver Memorial Award completely blew me away and I am humbled, proud and thankful to have known Bob as closely as I did," he adds. "The friendships I have formed and the networking I have done through this organization have been incredible and I would accept nothing in place for the experience."
"Considering the significance of the award, there could not be a more fitting recipient than Dick Simmons," says current ARM Chairman Brenda Case. "Dick has the unique ability to be a thoughtful diplomat on every issue-always looking out for ARM, yet always considering the interests of all parties involved. Dick is a friend, a dedicated ARM partner and an avid supporter. I cannot think of a more worthy candidate."
"Bob's absence was noted by many at our meeting and I am extremely happy that the Weaver Memorial Award will allow his name to live on," says Past ARM Chairman Craig Payan. "Dick is a deserving winner of this special award."
