Lisa Doherty, co-founder, president and CEO of Windsor, CT based Business Risk Partners (BRP) has been named to Business Insurance magazine's list of "Women to Watch 2010." Doherty was on Thursdday, December 16, at a luncheon and awards program at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago.
In 2000, after 15 years in the insurance industry and in her mid-thirties, Doherty, along with her sister, Linda Boborodea, spotted an opportunity targeting small and medium-sized businesses in a largely underserved area of specialty insurance and launched Business Risk Partners. Through customization and a proprietary underwriting system unmatched in the industry for its efficiency, the managing general agency has grown into a dynamic multimillion-dollar firm in just a decade. Working with producers nationwide and partnering with top global specialty carriers, today BRP underwrites and administers professional and management liability policies for 160+ professions in businesses of all sizes.
A graduate of Brown University, Doherty was a specialty underwriter for AIG and Executive Risk and Senior Vice President of Marsh's FINPRO practice before launching BRP.
Now in its fifth year, the magazine's annual "Women to Watch" issue profiles 25 women executives who are doing outstanding work in insurance, reinsurance, risk management, employee benefits and related fields. Business Insurance's criteria include the individual's recent professional achievements, influence on the marketplace and contributions to the advancement of women in business.
