ACORD presented its first Rainmaker Award for advancement of ACORD standards in the industry to James P. Kellner, Chairman and CEO of Storefront Owner Applied Systems, Inc. http://www.programbusiness.com/tracking/sftracker.asp?Sfid=140. This was the first time this award was presented and acknowledges special achievement in the area of ACORD standards advocacy and implementation.
"As we prepared for the 2005 ACORD Awards Program earlier this year, it was obvious that Applied Systems had been recognized more frequently over the years than other members," stated Gregory A. Maciag, president and CEO of ACORD. "And Jim Kellner is one of those people who 'walks the talk' with implementations as well as consistent support and leadership in our process. We want to begin recognizing leaders who get it done, as they are the true rainmakers for ACORD Standards. So we decided to create a Rainmaker Award and I could not think of anyone more deserving than Jim Kellner who has been involved in what we do in so many ways over the past 20 years."
Charles "Chuck" McCaig, CIO, Chubb and current chair of the ACORD Board of Directors added that, "Jim has shown that it is not only possible but beneficial to an organization to drive home the importance of standards from the top down showing the industry that standards are a key business enabler not just an IT tool."
"Jim Kellner is very deserving of this award for his commitment to ACORD and standards implementations," said Dave Findley, Chief Operations Officer, Property/Casualty Insurance Operations, St. Paul Travelers and immediate past chair of ACORD's Board of Directors. "He has, and has shared throughout his organization, the vision of what ACORD standards are and what they can do."
"I am proud to accept ACORD's recognition on behalf of our entire team of Applied Systems professionals who for years have carried the torch for standards development and implementation," Mr. Kellner said. "We are inspired by ACORD's example of relentlessly urging our industry to adopt standards and achieve the highest levels of efficiency and success. We look forward to continuing to 'bring the rain,' to be at the forefront in helping to develop and execute industry standards."
The award, while not an annual recognition, will be presented at other ACORD events as a special honor to those who have shown outstanding achievements in the advancement of standards for the insurance industry.
